Our last trip just the two of us! I used to visit Cornwall as a child, my aunty had a house on the south coast in St Mawes and I was dying to go back. Having seen so many photos of wonderful places in north Cornwall on Instagram, that’s where we decided we would go. It was a toss-up between staying at The Scarlet or Watergate Bay, both located between Padstow and Newquay within 2 miles of each other. We decided on The Scarlet as it is an adult only hotel so knew we would be guaranteed peace and quiet before we can’t stay in adult only hotels anymore.
We booked four nights and drove down on a Thursday afternoon. The drive would have been approx. 4 and a half hours from Surrey but we made lots of stops being 29 weeks pregnant. We arrived just in time for sunset at The Scarlet to beautiful views.
We explored the hotel and went straight to the hot tubs on the water front with incredible views.
We walked down to the most vast beach as the tide was so far out. It was absolutely stunning.
We were really lucky with the weather, it was sunny everyday except for one, where it rained all.day.long, which was the day we went into Padstow so I didn’t take any photos except for lunch at Rick Steins Fish and Chip restaurant.
We mostly chilled out and relaxed at the hotel, in our room and in the lounge on the top floor with the cliff views on the large sofas.
I was dying to visit the Bedruthan Steps, which is a National Trust area. The wow factor doesn’t even come close! One of the most beautiful natural places I think I’ve ever seen. Just don’t go too far to the edge. I wouldn’t want to take dogs or children there, it is literally a huge drop off the cliff all the way round. But, this was nature at it’s best!
Back to the hotel for another beautiful sunset and dinner.
A morning swin to start each day off…
Constantine Bay was also another must place to visit on our list and again, it did not disappoint! The huge bay made it perfect for a vast beach as well as stunning cliff views where the ocean bashed against the huge rocks, just stunning. Like many places, photos just don’t do it justice.
On our last full day we spent the day at Watergate Bay. I loved the New England beach style interiors.
There are a few restaurants at Watergate Bay but we decided on having lunch at The Beach Hut. It was a great place for a relaxed lunch on the water front.
A walk on the beach with a toe dip in the ocean…
We spent our final night at the hotel with another beautiful sunset.
And just like that, it was home time. I can’t recommend The Scarlet enough. It was the perfect place to spend our last trip before we’re a family of three.
