Those of you that know me personally will know that we love going away, whether it is a long weekend in the UK or a holiday abroad. When booking hotels one of the main factors is the interiors, I love getting inspiration in this way. We celebrated our first wedding anniversary last November at the beautiful The Gainsborough in Bath so when it came to booking somewhere to celebrate our second wedding anniversay this year I knew I wanted to stay at The Lucky Onions no.131 as I had been there earlier in the year for a Hen tea party and wow, it did not disappoint

We booked two nights, Saturday and the Sunday night, giving us three days in Cheltenham which was the perfect amount of time. It was a two and a half hour drive from Surrey. As our daughter is only three and a half months old she came with us. Next year she will be old enough to stay with family.

No.131 is a stunning Georgian building in the heart of Cheltenham situated on the promenade overlooking the Imperial Square and Gardens and like they say, ‘its classic on the outside and contemporary British on the inside’. I’m a sucker for period features and properties that ooze character. The interior design is a fabulous mix of orignal features mixed with a cool contemporary twist and it works so well. Who said you can’t mix panelling and neon lights!

We booked their ‘excellent room’ and it did not disappoint. Room 6 is the best in the house. A huge room with a large en-suite bathroom, a gorgeous free-standing bath in the bedroom, a super King size bed and two TV’s. Oh and the panelling, the panelling was to die for. With the exceptionally high ceilings the panelling just made the room against the two large Georgian sash windows with beautiful cast iron radiators. There was nothing about the room I didn’t like. When the day comes to build my home, this is how it will be designed. I loved the double doors going into the bathroom.

We were greeted with a glass of processco on arrival and then again with little cakes when we were in our room along with a lovely anniversary card. It’s the little touches like this that make a hotel stay stand out.

After the long drive from Surrey to Cheltenham we spent the afternoon relaxing in the room watching films. Both TV’s, the bed and bath, are controlled via an iPad complete with Sky, Apple TV and Freeview.

On our first night we ate in the restaurant which was very cosy. The decor was just as gorgeous as our room. My husband is a big steak lover so appreciated the meat board that was bought to our table. We enjoyed a lovely dinner with exceptional food and drink, oh and another glass of processco! Georgie had her bedtime feed before we left the room so she was fast asleep in her pyjamas and sleeping bag in the pram.

The next morning we woke up to a pre-breakfast tray left outside our room. Again, it’s these little touches. We enjoyed this in bed watching TV whilst Georgie had her morning bottle.

Then we went downstairs to the restaurant for breakfast. There was a buffet laid out with pastries, jams, cereals and fruit and you could also order from the menu, so of course we did both!

With bellies full of a big and yummy breakfast we headed out to explore Cheltenham.

Our room was the three windows above the front door with views out to the Imperial Square and Gardens.

After a lovely day exploring the town with a spot of lunch and shopping we made our way back to the hotel just before dark for a drink and nibbles before going back upstairs to our room.

Our second night we decided to have a night in with a bubble bath, films and room service. It was heaven. Georgie enjoyed practising her swimming in the bath too!

Obsessed with the television, so funny!

Then my husband put her to bed and I enjoyed a bubble bath to myself.

Room service, the X-Factor and a film. The perfect night in.

The next morning we enjoyed another pre-breakfast tray followed by another huge breakfast downstairs.

On our last day in Cheltenham, the Monday, we explored the older side of the town, the old high street full of independent shops and of course walked for miles admiring the beautiful houses. My favourite thing to do where ever I am!

And that was that. We had the most wonderful weekend away celebrating our wedding anniversary as a family of three. Thank you No.131 for having us and for going over and above to make sure our stay was perfect. We will be back for sure!

*Our stay was enhanced by No.131 in exchange for promoting the hotel but as always all opinions and writing are my own, I would never promote a product or service that I didn’t agree with.
